Shared apartments in Essen, Duisburg and Mülheim
In our dormitories we offer shared apartments for 2 to 7 people. The size of the shared apartments varies depending on the dormitory and the city.
It is up to the dormitory, the size of your group and the city of your choice whether we can offer your group a matching shared apartment.

Rent incl. additional costs
In contrast to the free housing market, the costs for (eco) electricity, water, heating, TV and internet connection are in most cases already included in the rent.
The rental costs depend on the type of room and dormitory and lie between 245,40 € and 468,00 € per month and person.
Additional payments are excluded for our tenants!

Further benefits
The support provided by caretakers on site as well as the diverse range of events offered by our dorm tutors make it easier for you and your group to settle into your new home and daily study life.
In addition, the common rooms in our dormitories provide a meeting place for social activities.
Practical extras such as parking spaces, bicycle storage, washing machines and dryers complete our all inclusive package.

What happens next?
Step 2
After we have received your group application by email, it's our turn: We will check if there is a suitable apartment available for your group. Normally we process your application within a few days.Step 3
You will receive an apartment offer and a code for your preferred shared apartment. The apartment is now reserved for your group.Step 4
You accept the offer and confirm this by e-mail.Step 5
After accepting the offer, each group member fills out the online form in our online application portal. In the comments field of the form, all members mention the code we sent you. This is the only way we can assign your group to the correct apartment!

How can we apply as a group for an apartment from the STUDIERENDENWERK?
The group application takes place online only via our contact form.

Who can apply?
Students of the University of Duisburg-Essen, the Folkwang University of the Arts and the Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences can apply for an apartment as a group.
External students also have the chance to apply - individually and as a group - for a place in a dormitory. However, these applications will be given secondary priority.

Do we rent the apartment as a group or individually?
You rent the apartment individually. Even if you apply together for a place in the dormitory, each person will sign a separate rental agreement.

How big can our group be?
The maximum group size is 7 people. This is the largest type of shared apartment that we rent in our dormitories.
However, not every dorm can accommodate 7 people in a shared apartment. The room types and apartment sizes do vary from dormitory to dormitory. Whether we can offer you a matching apartment depends on the dormitory and the available capacity.

Which dormitories are possible?
Unfortunately, group applications are not possible for the following dormitories: Sommerburgstraße 157 (Essen) and Sternbuschweg 156 (Duisburg).
Whether and what we can offer you depends on your preferred city, our respective occupancy and your group size. -
I aready live in a dormitory of STUDIERENDENWERK. Can I still apply?
Yes, in-house moves are also possible. Just send us an e-mail.

There are only two of us. Can we apply?
Yes. We also rent 2-person apartments.

We would like to move in as a family. Can we apply?
Yes, in general married couples without a child can also apply together for a dormitory place. Please keep in mind that our 2-person apartments have separate bedrooms with single beds.
Families with a child or children can apply for a family apartment. However, the application for a family apartment is only possible through our online portal.

There is no suitable apartment available for my group. What now?
Our offer depends on which apartments are available at the time of application. Therefore, we can not guarantee you an offer in advance.
If there are no free capacities at that time, we ask for your patience. We will put your group on a waiting list and contact you as soon as a suitable apartment becomes available.
In urgent cases, it is also possible to divide your group and put you in separate apartments first. As soon as your ideal apartment is available, you can apply for an internal move. Just contact us.

I would like to apply as an single person instead. What now?
Once you change your mind and look for a room independent of your group, you must reapply. Please only use our online portal for individual applications.
